The Galaxy
I cheered on the Los Angeles Galaxy tonight against their hometown rivals Chivas USA. David Beckham isn't officially back with the squad until Monday, but it was nice to see (Becks' teammate and biggest critic recently) Landon Donovan back in the action.
The Galaxy thankfully won 1-0, and apparently Becks and his guest, (soccer god!) Zinedine Zidane, were in a luxury suite at the stadium watching the game.

LHK's Top 5 Hottest EPL Playaz
The New Year is almost upon us, and this list is long overdue. But, I haven't been as motivated to make it as I was last season. Chelsea has had a weird season so far... And if Chelsea doesn't win a trophy again this season, I'll be soooo bummed. BUT, the eye-candy show MUST go on!
So, here are my picks for the TOP 5 HOTTEST ENGLISH PREMIER LEAGUE PLAYERS (for the 2008-9 season).
1) JOHN TERRY - Chelsea (No surprise here really since I worship the man)

2) Carlo Cudicini - Chelsea (He's Chelsea's #2 goalkeeper, but THE hottest goalkeeper in the world)

3) Niko Kranjcar - Portsmouth (I may be a little biased towards pretty Croatians; so what?)

4) Roque Santa Cruz - Blackburn Rovers (a little Latin flavour)

5) Lucas Neil - West Ham (a yummy Aussie)

Honorable Mentions:
Alan Smith - Newcastle
Peter Halmosi - Hull City
P.S. One of my usual EPL favz, Freddie Ljungberg, has left the EPL for America and is coming to play for the new MLS team in Seattle. So, as I've mentioned before, I can't wait to see him and Becks play on the same field when Seattle comes to L.A.
Anywhoo, feel free to compare this list to last year's picks, and let me know what you think. As always, I'd love to hear about your favz too!

Eye-Candy ALERT!

Mental note: BUY tix for the Galaxy vs. Sounders game next season. Becks vs. Freddie = YUMMY!
P.S. Thanks for the tip, RD!

More Important But...
I know there are more important things in the world, but...
1) No new movie today; off to CARDIO TENNIS instead (again).
2) David Beckham has been called up for national team duty.
3) Justine Henin's vengeful double-bagel victory over Marion Bartoli at the Sony Ericsson Championships yesterday in Madrid was just brutal.
4) Former Chelsea FC player, Ruud Gullit, has been named the new LA Galaxy manager. Although I like this move, I still refuse to renew my season tickets.
5) Speaking of my beloved Blues, Chelsea takes on Everton on Sunday (airing live on Setanta at 6am PST). Come on, Chelsea!
6) And finally, here's some random eye-candy for your Friday. Hot and cheezy UK singer, Shayne Ward, showing us some shirtless hooligan luv:

I'm not English, but...
I am a bit of an Anglophile, and I feel the pain of English sports fans.
Just this past week:
1) England lost to Russia in a Euro 2008 qualifying game.
2) England lost to South Africa in the Rugby World Cup final.
3) Lewis Hamilton lost the Formula One title.
4) The Galaxy (even with their English mega-star David Beckham) failed to make the MLS play-offs.
All I can say is, CHIN UP, kids, we have Champions League matches this week!

LHK Sporting News
1) I was at the Galaxy game last night for David Beckham's long-awaited return to the squad. It was, of course, a tad anti-climactic since the Galaxy only ended up drawing with the N.Y. Red Bulls 1-1.
2) The Rugby World Cup is tomorrow; England takes on South Africa!
3) It's going to be a big weekend for English sports, as Formula One driver, Lewis Hamilton, could win the world title.
4) In Chelsea FC news, both John Terry and Ashley Cole are unfortunately injured and unavailable for the game against Middlesbrough tomorrow (on FSC at 6:55am PST).
5) In Madrid, there are no Spaniards left in the Mutua Madrilena Masters; the semi-finals take place tomorrow.

LHK Sporting News
1) Sniff, sniff; both of my beloveds, Robby Ginepri and Marat Ginepri, lost at the Madrid Masters today. Speaking of Madrid, it's good to see Andy Murray back in action.
2) In more sad news, John Terry re-aggravated his knee injury and definitely won't be playing for England tomorrow morning in the very important Euro 2008 qualifying game against Russia!
3) Will Sweet Cheeks Becks actually play for the Galaxy this Thursday night? Who can say? But, I plan to be there nonetheless, and I will be using my LAST PAIR of drama-filled season tickets.

Suck it, L.A. Galaxy!
The Los Angeles Galaxy had the audacity to mail me a 2008 Season Tickets renewal form today! After what I've been through during this horrendous season with Sweet Cheeks David Beckham, all I can say to them is (to quote Kathy Griffin) "Suck it!" I have no interest in giving them another big chunk of change EVEN IF Becks is 100% healthy for 100% of the 2008 season.
So, I crossed out all of the financial terms on my renewal form and instead wrote my ticket rep this note:
I just faxed the form over to them, and I feel a little better...
So, I crossed out all of the financial terms on my renewal form and instead wrote my ticket rep this note:
Dear Dan,
You are a very nice ticket rep, but unless the Galaxy acquires John Terry or Freddie Ljungberg, the Galaxy would have to PAY ME to renew my season tickets. The $ I already spent on this year's season tickets is probably the biggest waste of $ that I have ever dealt with... In the future, I think I'll just stick with single game tickets, and I would appreciate discounted or free ones for what I've gone through during this disappointing season.
Sincerely,
Lady Hooligan Kat

LHK Sporting News
1) Robby Ginepri takes on Stanislas Wawrinka tomorrow (in the 3rd match on Louis Armstrong stadium) at the U.S. Open. Go Robby!
2) Chelsea takes on Aston Villa tomorrow. Man U and Liverpool both won their games today, so all I can say is: GO BLUES!
3) I actually skipped the L.A. Galaxy game tonight (didn't even give my tix away) 'cause I'm soooo bummed about BAD NEWS BECKS!!!

P.S. Happy September! It certainly is a foxy month on my John Terry wall calendar.

More Important But...
I know there are more important things in the world, but...
1) Bill and I decided to skip our Friday movie today. We were going to catch-up and see "Death at a Funeral" but decided against it 'cause the reviews for it are just mediocre. And although I love the Bruce Lee classic "Enter the Dragon" and the sport of ping-pong, I'll be skipping the movie spoof "Balls of Fury" too.
2) Jose Luis de Vilallonga, the actor who played Holly Golightly's Brazilian fiancee in "Breakfast at Tiffany's", passed away yesterday.
3) Victoria Beckham will be guest-starring on "Ugly Betty" this Fall. I've been getting into the series this summer since the Season 1 dvd set came out. Posh seems like a perfect match for the show. But, I thought Posh had no Hollywood/acting ambitions? Does a cameo count?
4) In LHK Sporting News:
- James Blake finally won his first ever 5-set match last night against Fabrice Santoro in the 2nd round of the U.S. Open!
- Chelsea have drawn Valencia, FC Schalke 04 and Rosenborg BK in the Group Phase of the UEFA Champions League.
- WHY AM I NOT IN NEW YORK?? Robby Ginepri and Marat Safin are playing their 2nd round U.S. Open matches back to back on the Grandstand today (just torturing me and flaming my sandwich fantasies)!!
- David Beckham sprained his knee in the Galaxy's Wednesday night loss and may be out for SIX WEEKS! This is just unbearable...

1) Marat Safin plays the ATP's Loverboy, Frank Dancevic, in the first match on Louis Armstrong stadium today at the U.S. Open. Robby Ginepri takes on Olivier Rochus today in the second match on the Grandstand. Matches start at 8am PST on the USA Network. But, if you want to watch these matches in their entirety and you have DirectTV, tune into USA's US Open Interactive Service.
2) Becks is likely to play tonight in the Galaxy's SuperLiga final game against Pachuca. It's a sold out game, but I won't be there. I'll be in my tennis class (boycotting Sweet Cheeks, for tonight at least).
3) Man U's baby-faced assassin, Ole Gunnar Solksjaer, announces his retirement.
4) R.I.P. Antonio Puerta

For Fok's Sake
It was a mess! David Beckham DID actually make it back from England to play a full 90-minutes for the Galaxy tonight, but we only saw him play for 45 minutes 'cause we got there just before the second half! Just in time to see Chivas USA score 3 times on the South end of the field (where my seats are). Argh! The Galaxy lost (3-0); Becks had a lackluster performance; and my season ticket story just gets sorrier and sorrier... The only positive tonight: getting out of the Home Depot Center was a relative breeze (thankfully no gridlock in the parking lot). Thanks (for nothing), Universe.

The Prize!
In other LHK sporting news:
- English tennis tiger, Tim Henman, announces his retirement.
- Chelsea finalize the sale of Dutch winger Arjen Robben to Real Madrid.
- Since Robby Ginepri is out of the Pilot Pen, I guess I'll root for James Blake. Speaking of Gineps, he's drawn Belgian, Olivier Rochus, in the first round of the U.S. Open (a far from easy match-up).
- I'll be going to the Galaxy's game against Chivas USA tonight. Let's see if Sweet Cheeks even plays...

More Important But...
I know there are more important things in the world, but...
1) David Beckham has indeed been picked to be a part of the England squad that will play Germany in a friendly game on August 22nd in England at Wembley. Sweet Cheeks CLAIMS that he's hopeful that he'll be able to get back to L.A. for the August 23rd Galaxy home game, but why am I doutbful? Hmm...
2) Bill and I attended the first preview of "Welcome to the Moon" last night, and I can now officially recommend it to you. The production is a short and sweet series of 6 one-act plays (about an hour long total without an intermission) by John Patrick Shanley. Our co-faux-boyfriend, Rob, is thankfully featured in the 2nd and 5th plays, and he's delightful (although the 2nd play has some strange direction). Bill and I also appreciated the sparse yet imaginative set, and overall, we thought that the entire company is quite talented. BRAVO!
Okay, now I'm off to see SUPERBAD; can't wait. I'll have a report later.

Just My Luck!

Well, the universe being the way that it is, David Beckham not only made his FIRST START for the Galaxy, he also wore the captain's armband AND scored his FIRST GOAL. The Galaxy beat DC United 2-0, and I missed ALL OF IT! But, that's JUST MY LUCK! Now, since Becks is back in decent shape, Steve McClaren will probably call him up to play for England, and Sweet Cheeks will miss the upcoming Galaxy games that I actually have tix too.
To quote my old friend, Erik, "Why me??"

Go Blues!
Chelsea takes on Reading today (at 12noon PST on FSC), and I'm a bit nervous about it. Reading was the team that, in one game, severely injured both of our goalkeepers last season (of course John Terry then valiantly played in goal at the end of that game). I will CURSE Reading if they even touch one hair on the head of any Chelsea player!
Also, in SWEET CHEEKS news, it looks like David Beckham will actually be playing tonight in the Galaxy's (home) SuperLiga semi-final game against DC United. OF COURSE, this game is NOT a part of my season ticket plan, and I REFUSE to spend any more $ to go see Becks (besides I have my tennis class tonight). It goes without saying that (aside from his exciting debut game against my beloved Chelsea) Becks' debut season with the Galaxy has been very disappointing for me. And, the disappointment will only continue IF Becks is picked to play for England in their international friendly against Germany on August 22nd because I have Galaxy tix for their game against Chivas USA on August 23rd! Damn it; they can all SUCK IT!
