A little inspiration...

for the New Year: Dolly Parton's video for "Better Get to Livin'" starring the one and only Amy Sedaris!

More Important But...

I know there are more important things on New Year's Eve, but...

1) A belated congrats to the New England Patriots for their historical 16-0 NFL season. I gave up watching American football ages ago, but kudos to the FOXY Tom Brady for getting me back into it (well, at least when he's on screen).

2) Also, what's the deal with Robby Ginepri? He's in Australia; trying to prepare for the Australian Open; playing in the Next Generation Adelaide qualifying rounds; BUT retires in his 2nd qualifying match?!? Wha happened? No news has yet been posted on his website.

3) Chelsea takes on Fulham tomorrow morning (Jan. 1st at 4:40am PST on Setanta). With Chelsea's lengthy list of injured players, here's hoping we get a win and that the EPL's January transfer window helps us out a bit!

I hope you have a fun and safe New Year's Eve, and best wishes for 2008!

Bummer...

Why is it such a bummer when fellas you dig get married? I should be happy for the adorable Jimmy Fallon who recently got hitched to Drew Barrymore's producing partner, Nancy Juvonen.

Good Morning!

Chelsea beat Newcastle 2-1 this morning, and Man United LOST 1-2 to West Ham! My day's off to a good start!

Hello, Dalí!

Bill, Rob and I checked out the Dalí: Painting and Film exhibit at LACMA today (compliments of Lady Lorelei). My favorite parts of the exhibit were the Disney short film "Destino" and the painting "Singularities". The exhibit closes on Jan. 6th, so catch it while you can...

Random DVD

First of all, there's no easy to say this except: R.I.P. Benazir Bhutto.

Okay, back to more frivolous topics; almost forgot to mention that EASTERN PROMISES (starring Viggo Mortensen) came out on DVD this week:

To quote Bill: "Viggo is good for my ego."

Boxing Day

Chelsea tied Aston Villa 4-4 this morning in a very stressful game (3 red cards and 8 goals); argh! For other Boxing Day EPL matches, check out the listings on soccerTV.com.

Merry Christmas!

It's my last day to soak up all the holiday music I can... Best wishes to you and yours!

Random LHK News

1) First of all, Happy Christmas EVE!

2) Chelsea can now add #1 goalkeeper, Petr Cech, to their injured list! With #2 (and foxy) goalkeeper, Carlo Cudicini, out too, we're stuck with our 3rd-string man, Hilario; argh! To quote my friend's Grandmother, "Oh, Brother. God, help us." Once again, injuries are (literally) going to hurt Chelsea's chances at winning the EPL title. I just hope we can win at least ONE trophy this year, and I'd even take the Carling Cup.

3) Earlier this month, Dave Attell's hilarious comedy special CAPTAIN MISERABLE came out, and I forgot to plug it. It's still airing on HBO (if you can catch it), and it's also available for sale.

4) Speaking of HBO, extras' THE EXTRA SPECIAL SERIES FINALE is out too. It's "bloody merry"!

5) On the topic of being "bloody merry", the British Monarchy has their own official YouTube channel; check out the Queen's Christmas speeches on TheRoyalChannel.

Friday Movie Review

Johnny Depp is beyond talented! Although I don't even like musicals, he really blew me away in SWEENEY TODD. My whole crew really enjoyed the flick as well, but don't see it if you have a blood-phobia though. Anywhoo, I might have to amend my Golden Globe picks 'cause I think Depp might beat Ryan Gosling in the Best Actor (Musical/Comedy) category.

Movie/Soccer Update

I'm off to see SWEENEY TODD later this morning; can't wait!

By the way, I forgot to mention that Bill, Stacy and I saw JUNO last week. It was very good, and I'd recommend it. Ellen Page is wonderful as the lead, and you gotta love Michael Cera and Jason Bateman.

P.S. In soccer news:

1) Chelsea take on Blackburn tomorrow (Sun. at 8am PST on FSC). Let's hope Frank Lampard scores and gets his CENTURY of goals for the Blues!

2) Sweet Cheeks David Beckham may train with Arsenal during the Galaxy off-season. Perhaps he'll be fit enough to actually play in the upcoming MLS season, but I'm still NOT buying season tickets again.

The Champions!

The UEFA Champions League draw took place this morning, and Chelsea will be meeting Greece's Olympiacos in the first-round of the knock-out stage (not too terrible; well, I hope).

P.S. For my fellow Angelenos, be careful with that wind today.

Go Blues!

Congrats to Chelsea for beating Liverpool today (2-0) and making it to the semi-finals of the Carling Cup!!

New Music (&DVD) Tuesday

Mary J. Blige - Growing Pains (Bonus Track Version)

Here are some cool DVD releases coming out today (and a couple from last week too):

Why me?

My beloved John Terry is injured yet again and will be out of action for up to six weeks!!! WHY ME?? If JT loses the English national team captaincy on top of all this, I may SNAP!

P.S. Congrats to Kaka on winning the FIFA Player of the Year award!

Robby, Down Under!

Unfortunately, Robby Ginepri has to now officially attempt to qualify for the '08 Australian Open since the USTA (bastards) denied his request for a wild card. I, of course, have (an extremely biased) faith that he'll get the job done. I just can't imagine not seeing his sexy abs (err, I mean, shots) in the New Year!

(RG pic courtesy of a fab new blog I came across: Boyfriend)

P.S. I'm sending a special shout-out to Tennis Served Fresh for their LH support!

The END...

Although this blog will continue to be updated, LADY HOOLIGAN, the webzine, will no longer be online in the New Year. So, please feel free to take a final look at our archive of cheeky articles and pretty pics before I pull the plug. Thank you so much for all of your support!

Oh, Chelsea...

Chelsea lost to Arsenal today... John Terry was injured and subbed out in the 38th minute, and Arsenal scored the only goal of the game right at the end of the first half (just a few minutes after JT left the game). I'm sad.

But, I'm hoping that tonight's episode of Snoop Dogg's Father Hood (at 10:30pm on E!) featuring David Beckham ("Snoop It Like Beckham") will lift my spirits.

The giants of English Premier League will clash tomorrow morning (Sunday, Dec. 16th) for an epic day of soccer, and I can't wait!

Manchester United vs. Liverpool (on Setanta at 5:30am)

Chelsea vs. Arsenal (on FSC at 8am)

She's on TOP!

Saleisha is the winner of America's Next Top Model's Cycle 9! I'm fairly surprised that she made it to the end, but the girl nailed that runway from day one! So, I'll give her some props...

Catching up...

I've been out of town for a few days, so I'm catching up on my sporting news, etc...

But, I wanted to share a couple of fun items:

1) Becks' new ad campaign (compliments of Mister Demi)

and
2) A fab tennis cover racket from FRED FLARE.

Happy 27th Birthday to John Terry!
I love you, John!

Movie Update

1) Hey, check out the trailer for the SEX & THE CITY movie!

2) I'm off to see ATONEMENT tonight; can't wait!

3) Other December movies that I'm dying to see are JUNO, SWEENEY TODD, and PERSEPOLIS.

GOOD Magazine

Check it out! For only $20, you can subscribe to 6 issues of the tres cool and interesting GOOD Magazine, AND your entire subscription fee goes to a charity of your choice. I like new ideas like this...

More Important But...

I know there are more important things in the world, but...

1) The GRAMMY nominations were announced today. My (imaginary) votes go to Amy Winehouse, The White Stripes, Feist, The Beastie Boys, Lily Allen, Justice, and Robert Plant & Alison Krause.

2) Chelsea's Drogba needs knee surgery; ARGH!

3) Speaking of Chelski, owner Roman Abramovich has been named the richest sports owner around. Hey, if I had $18.7 billion(!), I would have bought Chelsea FC too! I would also sponsor an ATP/WTA joint tennis tourney (perhaps Indian Wells). Oh, a Lady Hooligan can dream...

Ronaldinho at Chelsea?

The EPL January transfer window is going to be interesting. I'm not sure how I feel about the rumors of Ronaldinho coming to Stamford Bridge; do we really need another expensive (and potentially ineffective) star player??

New Music (&DVD) Tuesday

First of all, HAPPY HANUKKAH!!!

Okay, there aren't a lot of big music releases today. Rufus Wainright has a live double-cd out however. Also, my blog pal, Kenneth in the 212, turned me onto Nicole Atkins a little while ago, and I can highly recommend her new album (she sounds like a modern-day Cass Elliot):

Apple iTunes
These are the 2 big DVD releases today:

P.S. Currently, I'm watching the UEFA Champions League between Celtic FC and AC Milan (on ESPN2). Let's see if the Ballon d'Or winner, Kaka, can help AC Milan win.

Art Show & Gift Sale

Today, I'm opening the Lady Hooligan Gallery for the first time ever and hosting an Art Show & Gift Sale (just in time for the holidays)! The event will be featuring the works of S. Manning, Hillzie and Lady Shelly.

LHK Sporting News

1) The US can re-claim Davis Cup victory if the Bryan Brothers win their doubles match today. James Blake and Andy Roddick already won their matches yesterday to give the U.S. a 2-0 lead over Russia!

2) Chelsea beat West Ham this morning! I contemplated going to London for this game 'cause I've always wanted to see my top 2 EPL pretties (John Terry and Freddie Ljungberg) playing on the same pitch. Oh, a Lady Hooligan can dream...

3) Last but not least: 1-2-3-4-5-6-7-8! U! C! L! A! UCLA! FIGHT! FIGHT! FIGHT! The big game's today; let's BEAT 'SC, baby!
