LHK (catch-up) Sporting News

SO MUCH has been going on, but here are the biggies:

1) First and foremost, (as you all know) the supernatural Michael Phelps has finally reached legend status by winning 8 gold medals in Beijing! It was super-exciting to watch all of his races, and I can't thank all of the Olympic male swimmers enough for providing SO MUCH eye-candy this summer.

2) The English Premier League is back! Chelsea played their first game against Portsmouth this past Sunday and won 4-0, playing with such great style! They're on top of the league, where they should stay. Come on, Chelsea!

3) Speaking of Chelsea, my beloved John Terry has been named captain of England (again) ahead of their game against the Czech Republic this Wednesday. Fabio Capello has made a wise and excellent choice in picking JT; actually THE ONLY choice in my book.

4) In tennis news, Rafa Nadal won the gold medal in men's tennis in Beijing and now is also #1 in the ATP rankings! Bravo, Rafa, you deserve it! Check Rafa out in the current New York Magazine too (thanks to Kennethinthe212 for the link).

I've been a bit busy...

I just moved into a bachelorette pad, so I've been neglecting my blog. But, I have lots to talk about (The Olympics, the EPL, movies, music, etc...) and will post some updates soon. By the way, in my search for black and white damask linens for my new boudoir, I came across a fab blog called BLACK AND WHITE DELIGHT. I check it almost everyday now to see what kind of black and white decor items they've found for us.

LHK Sporting News

1) Marat Safin has dropped out of the Legg Mason Classic in DC due to a neck injury. Feel better soon, Marat!

2) Lamps is staying! Chelsea has signed Frank Lampard to a 5-year contract extension! YAY!!!!

3) After unfortunately losing in the first round of the Olympics, Robby Ginepri has fortunately received a wild card into the Pilot Pen (the last tourney before the U.S. Open).

4) And yummy American Olympic swimmers; Grrrr....

LHK Sporting News

1) Robby Ginepri lost to Novak Djokovic in the first round of the Olympics.

2) Juan Martin del Potro upset Andy Roddick yesterday in the final of the Countrywide Classic in Los Angeles. Excellent playing, Juan Martin!

3) The U.S. Mens Olympic 4x100 relay team beat France in an AMAZING race that I could just watch over and over.

LHK Sporting News

1) Bravo to Michael Phelps on winning his first 2008 Olympic gold medal and setting a world record in the 400 IM!

2) Speaking of the Olympics, Ana Ivanovic, the top seed in the women's tennis event, has withdrawn with an injury to her right-hand.

3) With the English Premier League 2008-2009 season starting this coming weekend, I'll be doing some research in order to see if any changes need to be made to my TOP 5 Hottest Playaz from last season. I'll, of course, keep you posted...

4) Speaking of English football, the Community Shield went to penalty kicks today with Manchester United (boo! spit! boo!) winning on penalty kicks (3-1) over (better-looking) Portsmouth. Oh, for fok's sake; here's hoping Man U's success ENDS TODAY!

LHK Sporting News; a lucky day 08/08/08!!

1) As you know, the 2008 Summer Olympic Games start today! The Opening Ceremony airs on NBC tonight starting at 7pm PST.

2) Chelsea have made a bid for Real Madrid's Robinho; fingers crossed!

3) Speaking of the Olympics AND Chelsea, a beautiful photograph of a Frank Lampard corner-kick (entitled "Sun Lamp") is being displayed at an exhibit in Beijing.

4) The crew and I went to the Countrywide Classic last night at UCLA. We had a lot of fun in the "hospitality tents" before settling in to watch the matches. We saw Andy Roddick take on Dusan Vemic, and then John McEnroe vs. Mikael Pernfors.

Oh, and we also met Justin Gimelstob and Donald Young at the College Alumni Reception. We were a little hesitant about meeting Justin Gimelstob because of his recent derogatory comments about Anna Kournikova, but Donald Young seemed like a lovely lad.

Speaking of the Countrywide, the quarterfinals take place today. I'm contemplating whether to go or not. I really haven't seen Marat Safin live this year, and I missed his matches on Tuesday and Wednesday; blah, blah, blah...

Oh, Robby!

Robby Ginepri almost beat Roger Federer in their 2nd-round match at the Cincinatti Masters today. Gineps had match-point against Roger but couldn't close it out; argh!!!

Oh well... I guess Robby can now focus on his preparations for the Summer Olympics. Good luck, Playa!

Very Nice!

I GOTZ to get me to a newsstand and pick a copy of the August 2008 Men's Journal! Foxy (and shirtless) Olympic swimmers, Michael Phelps (who bears a slight resemblance to my tennis coach, Connz) and Ryan Lochte are on the cover.

Those torsos just KILL me! Dah-YAMN!

(Thanks for the heads-up, Kenneth).

Bravo, Venus!

Bravo to (big sister) Venus Williams on beating her younger sister, Serena, in today's Wimbledon Ladies' Championship match. The duo are also in the doubles final later today!

P.S. More U.S. Olympic swimming trials on NBC tonight!

LHK Sporting News

Some major sporting events are taking place tomorrow to kick off the long 4th of July holiday weekend:

1) The Wimbledon Men's Semi-Finals; Marat Safin versus Roger Federer AND Rafa Nadal versus Rainer Shuettler (coverage starts at 4am PST on ESPN2). Lady Lorelei and I concur that a Marat-Rafa sandwich would make an IDEAL (and delicious) FINAL!

2) Then, at 8pm on ABC, tune into the Olympic Swimming trials. I only got three words for you: 1)Michael 2)Phelps 3)Speedo!

LHK (catch-up) Sporting News

1) Spain beat Germany yesterday in the Euro 2008 final. I'm sort of indifferent about the result. It's a bummer that Michael Ballack (who plays for Germany and Chelsea) wasn't able to capture yet another major trophy (despite bleeding for his team), but I'm fairly happy for Spain for finally winning something after underachieving for so many years.

2) Marat Safin takes on Stanislas Wawrwinka today in the 4th Round at Wimbledon. If I'm not mistaken, Wawrinka ousted both Marat and Robby Ginepri in last year's U.S. Open. It goes without saying that I hope Marat BEATS him!

3) Speaking of Robby Ginepri, he's made it onto the 2008 U.S. Olympic tennis squad! I'm very happy for him; he deserves it!

4) Chelsea have signed Portugeezer midfielder, DECO, to the squad. Hmm....

5) Last but not least, another one of my beloveds, Freddie Ljungberg, has retired from the Swedish national team.

LHK Sporting News

1) Former Chelsea FC manager, Jose Mourinho, has signed a 3-year contract to manage Inter Milan. Let's hope he doesn't steal any Chelsea players! In any case, I'm bracing myself for a dramatic upcoming season 'cause I certainly wasn't prepared for this past heart-breaking '07-'08 one!

2) Robby Ginepri unfortunately lost his match today at the French Open versus Fernando Gonzalez. But, he had a great run AND has gotten himself a spot on the U.S. Olympic team now! Here's hoping he has a great rest of the season!

3) And, brava to Dinara Safina for saving several match points to come back and BEAT Maria Sharapova!

More Important But...

I know there are more important things in the world, but...

1) YAY!! Bravo to Novak Djokovic for beating and unreigning Roger Federer at the Aussie Open! Amazing!!

2) Speaking of tennis, the Aussie Open Women's FINAL is tonight on ESPN2 at 6:30pm PST!!

3) Also, Robby Ginepri has actually won a 1st round match! Well, I should hope so since it's the 1st round of a challenger event in Hawaii. Here's hoping Robby gets some wins and some confidence back; go, Robby!

4) I'm digging this song "Middle of the Sea" by a London band called SEQUOIA.

5) Boo! Mr. French is apparently dating Rosario Dawson.

6) Let's not forget about Olympic swimmer, Michael Phelps. Can't wait to see him swim this summer in Beijing!

7) Bacon Cocktails?!? Wha??

P.S. Just wanted to send a little random shout-out to Mrs. S!
