The Galaxy
I cheered on the Los Angeles Galaxy tonight against their hometown rivals Chivas USA. David Beckham isn't officially back with the squad until Monday, but it was nice to see (Becks' teammate and biggest critic recently) Landon Donovan back in the action.
The Galaxy thankfully won 1-0, and apparently Becks and his guest, (soccer god!) Zinedine Zidane, were in a luxury suite at the stadium watching the game.

Saturday Movie Review

I saw BRUNO mit Billy and RD today, and it was crazy and hilarious as expected! Sacha Baron Cohen is ridiculous, and be forewarned that this movie is WAY raunchier than Borat.

Live Music
Hillzie and I caught The Old 97's last night at the Music Box. The foxy Rhett Miller opened for his own band, performing his solo work. It was a fun show, and Rhett is beyond cute!
But, I seriously could have done without the opening opening act, Murry Hammond, the bass player for the band. His set was pure torture and beyond boring.
Thankfully, Rhett has charisma to spare; check him out:

P.S. I promise that's not me that you can hear singing along...

Sunday Movie Review
The ladies and I saw a matinee of CHERI today. Overall, it was pretty good (nothing to rush out to), but the set design, costumes and Rupert Friend were just delicious!

I'm done with Wimbledon...
Well, for this year at least. I'll record and fast-forward through both of the upcoming women's and men's Wimbledon finals this weekend, but I could care less about any of the players in them.
Friday Movie Review
Yay! I'm so excited I had a Friday off and got to go to the movies like the good old days! The crew and I saw PUBLIC ENEMIES today. I wasn't expecting much, as I'm not a big gangster movie fan. But, I'll see anything that Johnny Depp is in, and he did not disappoint! He's wonderful as per usual.
Overall, the movie was beautifully shot in high def digital, and I enjoyed the soundtrack. But, the movie was a little long for my taste, and some of the performances weren't that appealing (e.g. Christian Bale). However, Marion Cotillard was very good, except for her distracting French/Midwest/Navajo/Challenged accent.
I'd recommend the flick for the sole reason of seeing Johnny Depp on the big screen.
LHK Tennis Update
1) BO-ring! The Williams sisters will face each other again in the Wimbledon final.
2) The Wimbledon men's semi-finals are today, and I'm rooting for Andy Murray to win it all! Come on, Andy!

Farewell, Conner

My tennis coach of 4+ years and the Sept. '06 Lady Hooligan cover model, Conner (aka Connz aka CK) is leaving Los Angeles, and my Wednesday nights will strangely be open now.
Good luck with everything, Connz! We'll miss you and your Connerisms very much!

Live Music
Lady Lorelei and I went to the PHOENIX concert at the Wiltern tonight... Those French boys put on a such a great show, and I love them so!

I recorded this (short & blurry) clip from the show of my favorite song of theirs "Too Young":

P.S. The band will be on KCRW live tomorrow (Monday, June 29th) at 11:15am PST.

Summer Reading
I finally finished Russel Brand's Irons in the Fire.
His writing is very funny, verbose, and intelligent. I can completely relate to his fanaticism for his favorite EPL team (he's a West Ham fan). The book is a compilation of his articles for The Guardian, so the super-short chapters are perfect for a quick read before you doze off...
I've bought a couple of his other books as well and am looking forward to more laughs this Summer.

The Confedrations Cup
The US takes on Brazil in the FINAL today (on ESPN at 11:30am PST).
P.S. John Harkes, former US captain (and one of my OG soccer beloveds), is one of the commentators!

Argh!
It's official. All three of my beloveds were knocked out of Wimbledon in the first round. What a pisser!
Oh well, I hope they're all coming to my hometown to play at the L.A. Tennis Open in July. I'll be there cheering for them if so!
