Live Music
Lady Lorelei and I went to the PHOENIX concert at the Wiltern tonight... Those French boys put on a such a great show, and I love them so!
I recorded this (short & blurry) clip from the show of my favorite song of theirs "Too Young":
P.S. The band will be on KCRW live tomorrow (Monday, June 29th) at 11:15am PST.

Summer Reading
I finally finished Russel Brand's Irons in the Fire.
His writing is very funny, verbose, and intelligent. I can completely relate to his fanaticism for his favorite EPL team (he's a West Ham fan). The book is a compilation of his articles for The Guardian, so the super-short chapters are perfect for a quick read before you doze off...
I've bought a couple of his other books as well and am looking forward to more laughs this Summer.

The Confedrations Cup
The US takes on Brazil in the FINAL today (on ESPN at 11:30am PST).
P.S. John Harkes, former US captain (and one of my OG soccer beloveds), is one of the commentators!

Argh!
It's official. All three of my beloveds were knocked out of Wimbledon in the first round. What a pisser!
Oh well, I hope they're all coming to my hometown to play at the L.A. Tennis Open in July. I'll be there cheering for them if so!

Ay dios mio!
WIMBLEDON, England (AP)—Rafael Nadal will not defend his Wimbledon title.
The top-seeded Spaniard announced Friday he is withdrawing because of tendinitis in his knees.
He is the first reigning Wimbledon men’s champion to not defend the title since Goran Ivanisevic in 2002—and only the second in the last 35 years.
The grass-court Grand Slam tournament begins Monday.
Boooo indeed, Lady Lorelei, booooo.

Friday Movie Review
Bill, Raff and I saw THE PROPOSAL today. It's nothing to rush out to, but it was definitely cute as expected.
Wimbledon!
ooh-OOH! The WIMBLEDON draw was released today! The tourney starts on Monday, June 22nd, and I CANNOT wait!!!
Here are my beloveds' first-round match-ups:
Robby Ginepri faces Lleyton Hewitt; this might be a tough one for Gineps.
Jeremy Chardy faces Andy Roddick; argh! Allez, Jeremy!
Marat Safin faces Jesse Levine; here's hoping Marat will be as inspired as last year!

Ooh-OOH!
Chelsea's 2009-10 EPL fixtures were released today! Oh lawd! They're playing Arsenal away on my birthday. Don't know how I'm going to score a ticket to that game, but I plan to be there nonetheless!

Mishy
If you need a Michael Vartan fix (like I do), he's back on television tonight with the series premiere of HawthoRNe (on TNT at 9pm).
"Jada Pinkett Smith stars as the chief nursing officer at a busy hospital who fights for her patients and helps the doctors, administrators and her fellow nurses keep their priorities straight in this new series. Michael Vartan also stars." - LA Times

More Important But...
I know there are more important things in the world, but...
1) Caught the David Lynch photography exhibit, DARK NIGHT OF THE SOUL, yesterday. It wasn't terribly impressive, but the accompanying soundtrack (a collaboration between Danger Mouse and Sparklehouse) was really cool.
2) I also caught the movie MOON. It was a tad boring overall, but I enjoyed the set design and special effects.
3) Congrats to Andy Murray on winning the warm-up tournament before Wimbledon at Queen's Club today!
4) YAY! TRUE BLOOD is back on tonight (on HBO)!!

LHK Tennis Update
The French Open is over, and I'm surprisingly not feeling too much withdrawal. Thankfully, the grass court season has started, and Wimbledon is right around the corner (starting on June 22nd).
For now, a cool tune-up tourney at the Queen's Club in London has started. All three of my favorite players are there at the AEGON Championships.
I wish I was there too! Robby Ginepri and Jeremy Chardy have back-to-back matches on Court 9 today. Oh, a Lady Hooligan can dream...
Hopefully, one of my beloveds will at least progress to the quarters on Friday (when Tennis Channel will start airing live matches).

Sunday Movie Review
The gang and I caught THE HANGOVER today, and it did not disappoint. It was very funny, and I loved all three of the leads in it. I already knew I would like Ed Helms since he's on The Office. Bradley Cooper provided some very yummy and shirtless eye-candy, and Zach Galifianakis was so out there and hilarious.
And, among other surprise cameos, there was even an appearance by THE DAN BAND!
As cliche as it sounds, there were non-stop laughs, and I want to see it again!

Movie Update
I forgot to mention that I went to a screening of AWAY WE GO earlier in May, starring the adorable John Krasinski and Maya Rudolph. Now, you know I'd see probably anything that John Krasinki is in, and I was very excited to see this flick based on the charming trailers.
But, even though there were some great smaller roles and tender and funny moments in it, I wasn't very impressed with the movie overall. It was a tad boring, and I'm not sure I liked Maya Rudolph in the lead. And although I usually like Alexi Murdoch, his soundtrack didn't blow me away either.
I guess I'm not doing a good job of explaining, but there just was a handful of elements that have already been done. Too bad 'cause I really wanted to like it.

BO-ring!
Roger Federer has never done it for me, but I guess congrats to him on just winning his first French Open against (surprise finalist and Nadal-slayer) Robin Soderling.
I was hoping for an upset...

Ooh-OOH!
My two favorite female players, Dinara Safina and Svetlana Kuznetsova, have been dominating the entire clay court season, and now they're meeting in the FINAL of the FRENCH OPEN (on NBC at 6am PST)!

Frenchie Open Update
The women's semi-finals of the FRENCH OPEN take place today (on ESPN2 at 5:00am PST).
My two favz, Dinara Safina and Svetlana Kuznetsova, have both advanced to this round. Dinara takes on Dominika Cibulkova, and Sveta takes on Samantha Stosur.
I'm hoping that Dinara and Sveta prevail and meet in the FINAL, but in any case, there's going to be a NEW French Open champ, which is so great!
